Meet in Patna: "We may have some differences but have decided to work together with flexibility and will work to protect our ideology," Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said of the 17 opposition parties' decision to unite against the BJP in the LS elections in 2024.
PATNA: On Friday, as many as 17 opposition parties made the resolution to work together to defeat the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. They will also meet in Shimla next month to come up with a common strategy and work with flexibility.
After an almost four-hour meeting in which leaders of these parties shared their perspectives, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced that they would meet in the coming days to finalize their plan to fight together.
"During the meeting, a number of leaders voiced their opinions and we had a productive meeting.
He told reporters that seventeen parties had decided to team up and compete in the Lok Sabha elections together.
In order to unite against the BJP led by Narendra Modi ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the meeting is seen as a starting point for opposition unity.
The meeting was hosted by Kumar, who claimed that they were working in the national interest and accused the BJP of trying to change India's history against the country's interests.
According to sources, disagreements arose between the AAP and the Congress after Arvind Kejriwal demanded that the venerable party make its position on the Delhi ordinance public in order for his party to participate in future Opposition meetings.
"The black ordinance is completely anti-democratic, anti-federalism, and against the Constitution. "It would be very difficult for the AAP to be a part of any alliance that includes Congress because Congress' hesitation and refusal to act as a team player, especially on an issue as important as this one," the AAP stated in a statement.
"It will be difficult for AAP to participate in future meetings of like-minded parties where the Congress is a participant," it added. "Until the Congress publicly denounces the black ordinance and declares that all 31 of its RS MPs will oppose the ordinance in the Rajya Sabha, it will be difficult for AAP to participate in such meetings."
Mallikarjun Kharge, president of the Congress, said that the next meeting would be next month in Shimla.
